National Defense & Military Engineering

Military bunkers, national defence caverns, military fortifications and civil defence projects require extreme performance in blast resistance, seismic resistance, impact resistance and deformation tolerance. Traditional concrete is highly brittle, prone to penetrating cracks and structural collapse under impact, resulting in low safety redundancy. ECC ultra-high ductility concrete possesses superior toughness, energy dissipation and impact resistance with stable micro-cracking behaviour. Under blast wave impact, strong vibration and instantaneous heavy load, ECC avoids brittle explosion and structural disintegration. It effectively absorbs impact energy and maintains structural integrity.

Ocean Engineering

Marine environments contain high concentrations of chloride ions. Alternating wet-dry cycles and wave impact accelerate degradation of ordinary concrete and trigger severe steel corrosion. ECC’s dense matrix and controlled micro-crack system greatly reduce chloride penetration and resist seawater attack. It is applied to wharf slabs, wave walls, seawall retrofitting, auxiliary structures of offshore platforms and rehabilitation of coastal constructions, extending the design service life of marine assets.

Bridge Engineering

Bridge structures are subjected to repeated traffic loads and thermal shrinkage deformation over time. Conventional concrete tends to develop cracks, which induce steel corrosion and reduce service life. ECC exhibits stable multiple micro-cracking behaviour with controllable crack width, effectively blocking the ingress of moisture and chloride ions. It is suitable for bridge cap beams, box girder retrofitting, deck continuity zones, expansion joint replacement areas and bearing pads. ECC improves structural resilience and long-term durability, reducing maintenance and repair costs in later stages.

Tunnel Engineering

Tunnels operate in humid underground environments. Surrounding rock deformation, seismic action and uneven settlement may cause lining cracking and water seepage. With high ductility, ECC accommodates structural deformation without brittle failure and maintains structural integrity. It is widely used for tunnel lining strengthening, segment joint repair, portal seismic retrofitting and sprayed ECC temporary support. ECC mitigates water leakage risks and enhances long-term operational safety of tunnels.

Transportation Infrastructure Engineering

HTRI-ECC is a high-ductility cementitious composite developed for full-scenario transportation applications. It is suitable for new construction and defect repair of roads, bridges, tunnels, mine roadways, energy storage caverns, retaining walls, underground utility tunnels and associated pipeline systems. For road engineering, it can be used for thin-layer paving on expressways, municipal arterial roads and ramps to address reflective cracks, broken slabs and potholes, and improve fatigue resistance under heavy loads.

Underground Engineering

Underground storage and cavern facilities demand strict anti-cracking, water-tightness and impact resistance. Even minor structural cracks may lead to potential safety hazards. With high toughness and multiple micro-cracking mechanism, ECC avoids large penetrating cracks under load and retains impermeability. It can be used for storage lining, cavern structural strengthening and anti-seepage protective layers to improve the safety margin of underground storage structures.

Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering

HYD-ECC features high impermeability, strong freeze-thaw resistance, resistance to high-velocity sediment abrasion, controlled microcracking and excellent deformation compatibility. It can satisfy the requirements for long-term protection of newly-built hydraulic structures as well as reinforcement and repair of deteriorated existing projects.It effectively addresses persistent defects of hydraulic structures including seepage under long-term pressure, abrasion by sediment-laden high-speed flow, cracking induced by freeze-thaw cycles, through cracks caused by foundation settlement, and spalling under alternating wet and dry conditions. Boasting outstanding deformation compatibility, it can adapt to complex working conditions such as water level fluctuation, hydrostatic pressure, sediment impact and combined thermal & wet-dry variation, greatly extending the service life of key facilities and reducing later operation, maintenance and rehabilitation costs

Building Strengthening Engineering**

Existing buildings, ageing structures and municipal infrastructure commonly suffer from concrete aging, mortar deterioration, structural brittleness and insufficient seismic safety redundancy. Traditional repair mortar and ordinary concrete feature high stiffness and poor deformability. During earthquakes, they are prone to delamination, cracking and peeling due to incompatible structural stress, resulting in poor long-term reinforcement performance. ECC ultra-high ductility reinforcement material features flexible energy dissipation, high deformation compatibility, strong bonding strength and anti-peeling performance. It cooperates with the deformation of the original structure and releases seismic shear stress effectively.
